In the Ruckus Maker Mastermind, we read and discuss many great books.
Over the past few months, we’ve explored powerful ideas from authors like Shane Parrish, Rosamund and Ben Zander, Cal Newport, and Adam Grant.
These thinkers challenge us to lead with clarity, intention, and self-awareness.
At the heart of our discussions is a shared belief that reflection isn’t optional, it’s essential.
Here are a few insights on the power of reflection from our Ruckus Maker community.
Avoiding Stupid Decisions
“Your ability to make good decisions depends on your ability to avoid stupid ones.”
In his book Clear Thinking, Shane Parrish reminds us that many leadership missteps come not from lack of knowledge, but from failing to think clearly under pressure.
When we reflect, especially after a tough meeting or emotional exchange, we create space to evaluate our patterns, catch bias, and shift from reaction to intention.
Ask yourself:
What thinking traps are you prone to?
When are you most likely to rush or respond without clarity?
Rewriting the Story

Rosamund and Ben Zander offer a powerful reframe in their book, The Art of Possibility: the way we interpret situations is never fixed.
Reflection helps us examine the assumptions and stories we carry about others and ourselves.
And it helps us choose new narratives rooted in creativity, trust, and generosity.
Consider this:
What story are you telling yourself right now about a challenge?
What might change if you reimagined that story?
Clarity on What Matters
“Clarity about what matters provides clarity about what does not.”
In the book Deep Work, Cal Newport reminds readers that focus flows from reflection.
When leaders take time to reflect, they’re more likely to identify what truly deserves their energy.
And what doesn't.
Protecting time for reflection is how we protect time for what matters most.

Learning from the Process

What am I ready to change?
