Justin King told me something a few weeks ago that stopped me.

He said the courage came from the Mastermind.

Not the courage to do more.

The courage to STOP.

  • Stop believing that more hours would fix his campus.

  • Stop sacrificing the parts of his life he can't get back.

  • Stop modeling the exact behavior he doesn't want his teachers living.

Justin has young kids at home. He looked at them and did the math most principals avoid.

That time isn't coming back.

So he set boundaries. Real ones.

And here's what surprised him (his staff started commenting on it).

Not in a "where's the principal?" way.

In a "thank you for showing us this is okay" way.

His teachers started taking care of themselves too.

That's the part most leaders miss.

You think boundaries are selfish.

They're contagious.

Whatever you tolerate for yourself, your staff tolerates for themselves.

Whatever you model, your campus mirrors.

If you're working 70-hour weeks and answering emails at 10pm, your best teachers learn that's what leadership requires.

And then they leave the profession.

Or they stay and burn out.

Either way, you lose.

Justin didn't get there alone. He got there because someone outside his district told him the truth — that more hours wasn't the answer.
