THE RUCKUS MAKER MONTHLY THEME: REFLECTION

From Surviving to Leading with Confidence: Veronica’s Story

When Veronica Holyoke became a principal for the first time, she felt tired, stressed, and unsure of herself.

“I was just trying to survive,” she said.

There was so much to do, and she didn’t know where to start.

But then she joined the Ruckus Maker Mastermind, and everything began to change.

With time to reflect and people to support her, Veronica found a new way to lead, and a new belief in herself.

And because of this support she won AP of the Year for her district and the entire state of Utah.

A Safe Place to Be Honest

In the Mastermind, Veronica found a group of school leaders who really listened.

They didn’t expect her to be perfect.

She could say, “I don’t know what I’m doing,” and no one judged her.

(read that again)

Instead, they helped her think things through. They reminded her that she wasn’t alone.

Having a safe place to talk and reflect helped Veronica grow stronger.

She started to understand what kind of leader she wanted to be.

Saying Yes to What Matters Most

At first, Veronica said yes to everything. She wanted to make everyone happy.

But trying to do it all left her feeling tired and lost. In the Mastermind, she learned to stop and ask, What’s really important right now?

Now, Veronica says yes to the things that matter most — for her school, her students, and her team.

She’s not afraid to say no when something doesn’t fit her goals.

She’s leading with purpose, not pressure.

Working Smarter, Not Harder

Veronica also learned how to use her time better.

She started planning ahead, using tools to stay focused, and setting goals that matched what she believed in.

Now Veronica has a clear direction. “I’m not just reacting. I’m leading.”

She’s not trying to do everything anymore. She’s doing the right things.

Proud to Be Herself

Veronica feels proud of how far she’s come.

“I’m proud of the boundaries I’ve set. I can sit at the table and not be the loudest voice, but still feel confident I belong there.”

Her growth is helping her school grow, too.

Her story is proof of what’s possible when we reflect, ask for help, and believe in ourselves.
